Unlocking the Secrets of Going Viral, What's up with Threads
July 12, 2023
Threads WHO?! If you’ve been on the internet in the past week, you’ve probably heard about Threads. We’ll be getting into it down below in the first story. But right now… I’m feeling a bit like this about it.
💥 What’s Trending Keeping an eye on trends so you don’t have to
Look at Me. Look at Me. You Lookin’?
This trend is about doing a big reveal. Creators are using a blur filter and a simple swipe transition to reveal anything from a haircut to a new outfit. Check out this example.
Be sure to use Doja Cat’s song “Attention”
Pink + White Montage
For this one, you’ll need a +1. Film a few different looks in different locations, ending each clip clapping a hand with your pal or crossing one leg over the other. Click here for an example.
Put Frank Ocean’s “Pink + White” over the clips.
Tyga’s Bops Goin Brazy
Creators are going viral using this 18 second sample. Use this audio for pretty much anything POV, Reveals, OOTD, product features, etc.
This creator made a TikTok about concrete and got 13.4M views using the sound.

🔑 Key Stories
TikTok’s Algorithm = Viral Success + Creator Burnout?
More and more TikTok creators are starting to talk about burning out as they attempt to keep up with the algorithm (Link).
“The interest-based algorithm is making it much harder for TikTokers to attract more viewers on their platforms.”
The path to viral fame and financial success is unpredictable and doesn’t always align with the quality of the content.
Is the TikTok algorithm a friend or foe to content creators?
Despite creating high-quality, engaging videos, many creators find it difficult to consistently attract the viewership they seek.
The AI-driven feed doesn’t favor the creator’s persona or brand but instead responds to constantly changing user behaviors and trends
This constant need to adapt can intensify competition and lead to burnout, but despite these challenges, understanding and harnessing the TikTok algorithm can lead to viral success (Link).

AI is Reshaping the Creator Economy
We all know AI is on the rise as a tool for content generation and audience engagement.
But this trend isn’t just a boon for large-scale creators; AI can (and will) democratize the content creation landscape, allowing creators with smaller followings to produce high-quality content more efficiently and effectively (Link).
How can creators navigate and leverage AI?
Experimentation is key: Creators shouldn’t be afraid to utilize Ai tools in the content creation process (whether it’s brainstorming, editing, or visual content generation) (Link).
Using AI for audience understanding, harnessing automation, and staying informed and ethical are super important when using AI.
Let’s Talk About Threads
Meta’s new social platform, Threads, reached 100 million users in just 5 days (that’s faster than ChatGPT).
Built on Instagram’s infrastructure, Threads pulls in users from Instagram’s billion-strong user base, providing an effortless sign-up process and a promising potential Twitter alternative.
However, this initial success comes with a few caveats: the new platform is currently unfinished, there’s a lack of availability in the EU and there’s the fact that all Instagram users are automatically counted as Threads users… (Link).
Should content creators shift their focus to the new platform?
Given Threads’ rapid growth and massive existing IG user base, creators could potentially reach a large and diverse audience on the new platform.
However, creators should be cautious. We have yet to see how users will feel in the long run so it’s a bit too early to complete dive in with content strategy and all, IMO. (Link).
Something to consider as you’re thinking about getting on Threads or posting more on Threads:
“All I know is that I have to be ruthlessly protective of my time, energy, and attention in order to create the life I truly desire.
And that means less social media, not more or different.” (This quote is from founder of CreateIt, Kim Doyal, from the most recent issue of her newsletter The Spark). Read her full post here.

Add a little bit of ✨Spice✨ in other words… experiment
Experimenting with content is a key part of finding what truly resonates with your audience and keeps your brand fresh and engaging.
However, staying authentic to your brand while doing so is crucial, as it ensures the continuity and trust you've built with your audience.
Here are some ideas:
Different Content Formats: If you generally post blog articles, try branching out into video content, podcasting, or infographics. This allows you to provide diverse ways of consuming your content while still maintaining your brand's voice and key message.
Trending Topics: Try to engage with trending topics that align with your brand's values and audience interests. It's a great way to stay relevant and current without straying from your brand's core.
Interactive Content: Experiment with polls, quizzes, or live Q&A sessions to increase audience engagement. It's a great way to actively involve your audience while staying true to your brand.
Collaborations and Partnerships: Team up with a complementary brand or influencer for a collaboration. It introduces your brand to a new audience and can add a fresh twist to your usual content.
Test Different Visual Aesthetics: Experiment with different visual styles in your content (e.g., images, graphics, colors). Keep it aligned with your brand's aesthetic, but don't be afraid to try new things.
Personal Stories and Behind-the-scenes: Sharing personal anecdotes or behind-the-scenes looks into your brand can create a more personal connection with your audience.
The key to successful experimentation is to monitor the results closely. Use analytics to track engagement and see what works and what doesn't.
Each brand and audience is unique, so what works for others might not work for you and vice versa.
Always stay open to learning and adapting, and remember to stay true to your brand's core values and voice throughout the process.
